Treasure Hunt for 6 Year Olds
Six is the age where one child sounds out every word and the next reads chapter books. So at 6 you choose: Explorer cards with a picture and a short rhyme, or Detective cards with a riddle and a mini puzzle. The form starts on Explorer and you can switch with one tap.

Why six needs a choice
- Both levels are available at age 6, and the artwork is the same on each.
- Explorer keeps the pace up for a party where most guests are still learning to read.
- Detective suits a 6-year-old who reads alone and likes to be the one who works it out.
- A two-line rhyme is short enough for a first-grader to try reading aloud with help.
Sample clues a 6-year-old can try to read
- Backpack: Rex packed a snack for a long, long trek, look in the backpack, go and check!
- Bath mat: Rex left wet footprints, big and wide, lift the bath mat and look inside!
- Toy shelf: Rex lined up his friends in a neat little row, the toy shelf is where you need to go!
Make it for a 6-year-old
- Enter age 6 and pick the level. Explorer is selected at 6. Tap Detective if your child reads on their own. Dinosaur Expedition is preselected.
- Look at the preview cards. The free preview shows two of your spots as cards. Read them with your child in mind before you pay.
- Let them read the first line. Print and hide the cards. On the day, let the birthday child try each rhyme and help when asked.
Common questions
Explorer or Detective for a 6-year-old?
Go by reading, not by age. If they read simple sentences alone and enjoy puzzles, choose Detective. Otherwise choose Explorer.
The guests are a mix of 5, 6 and 7. What then?
Choose Explorer so nobody is left out. The stronger readers can read the rhymes to the group.
Can I see both levels before deciding?
Yes. The example pack on this page has an Explorer and a Detective tab with real pages of each.
What do I see before I pay?
The theme character and two of your own hiding spots as illustrated clue cards, free and without a card. The full printable hunt is $29.99 (was $34.99).
