Printable Halloween Treasure Hunt Clues: 24 Lines for Every Room
These Halloween treasure hunt clues are sorted by the room the card sends kids to. Each spot has a rhyme for ages 4 to 6 and a riddle for ages 7 to 10. Pick ten spots, copy the matching lines, and print them on one page.
How to use these clues
The clue you hide at one spot describes the next spot. So the card under the couch cushion should talk about the kitchen, if the kitchen is next. Write your route first, then copy the line for each next stop. The first card is the one you read out loud to start.
To print: paste ten lines into a document, two columns, large font. Cut along the lines. Number the back of each card in pencil so you can hide them in order.
Front door and hallway
Ages 4 to 6. "Trick-or-treaters knock right here. Check the mat, your next clue's near."
Ages 7 to 10. "I open for ghosts and goblins all night, but I'm closed right now. Look low, not high."
Ages 4 to 6. "Coats and capes hang in a row. Peek behind them, down below."
Ages 7 to 10. "I hold your jacket but never go out. Search my pocket and you'll find out."
Living room
Ages 4 to 6. "A bat sleeps in the cushions deep. Lift one up and take a peek."
Ages 7 to 10. "I have arms but cannot hug, legs but do not walk. Look under my seat."
Ages 4 to 6. "Where we watch a not-too-scary show, look under the remote. Go, go, go!"
Ages 7 to 10. "I'm full of stories but I never speak. Try my lowest row and take a peek."
Kitchen
Ages 4 to 6. "Orange and round with a carved-out smile. The next clue's been there for a while."
Ages 7 to 10. "I'm cold inside even when it's not winter. Your clue is stuck on my door, not in my drawer."
Ages 4 to 6. "Witches stir their soup in me. Look by the pot, what do you see?"
Ages 7 to 10. "Mummies wrap in me, so do leftovers. Find the roll and look under."
Bedroom
Ages 4 to 6. "Monsters under the bed? Not today. Just a card. Hooray!"
Ages 7 to 10. "You rest your head on me each night. Lift me up to find the next bite."
Ages 4 to 6. "Teddy bears guard this spot with care. Ask them nicely, the clue is there."
Ages 7 to 10. "I keep your costume till the big night. Open my door, then look to the right."
Bathroom and laundry
Ages 4 to 6. "Brush your fangs, it's nearly time. The next clue's by the sink. That rhymes!"
Ages 7 to 10. "I show a face but I am not a ghost. Look at my bottom edge, not my top."
Ages 4 to 6. "Dirty socks and spooky shirts. Look on top, it never hurts."
Ages 7 to 10. "Clothes go in me dirty and come out clean. Check the basket next to me."
Finish cards (the treasure)
Ages 4 to 6. "You found them all, you brave little crew. The treasure is waiting just for you!"
Ages 7 to 10. "Ten clues solved, the case is closed. Where the treats are hidden, only the bravest knows: [last spot]."
Ages 4 to 6. "Witch's hat and spider's thread. The treasure's waiting near your bed!"
Ages 7 to 10. "Count your steps from the front door: ten forward, two left. Look down at the floor."
Tips that make clues work
- Read each card at the spot before you hide it. If you hesitate, the kids will stall.
- For non-readers, draw the next spot on the back: a fridge, a shoe, a bed.
- Keep one hint ready for every card. "It's in the kitchen" is enough.
- Hide the treasure first, then the last clue, then work backward.

FAQ
Are these Halloween clues free to print?
Yes. Copy them into any document and print at home. Use them for a party, a classroom, or a family night.
How do I make clues harder for 10-year-olds?
Turn the riddle into a code: write the next spot backward, or as numbers (A=1, B=2). Add a time limit for the whole hunt.
How many clues should I print?
Ten covers 20 to 30 minutes for ages 4 to 10. Print two spares in case a card goes missing.
Can kids who can't read do a clue hunt?
Yes. An adult reads the rhyme, and a small drawing of the next spot on each card lets them lead.
