Halloween Party Games for Kids: 9 Games That Work Indoors
A Halloween party for kids aged 4 to 10 needs about three games plus one main activity. More than that and you spend the party explaining rules. Fewer and the costumes start a wrestling match. Here are nine games that work in a living room, with what you need and how long each takes.
1. Mummy wrap (10 minutes)
Teams of two or three. One child is the mummy, the others wrap them in toilet paper. Fastest full wrap wins, or the best-looking mummy. Supplies: one roll per team. Works for every age, and it makes the best photos of the night.
2. Monster freeze dance (5 to 10 minutes)
Play spooky music. When it stops, everyone freezes as a monster: zombie, vampire, ghost. Call out a monster before each round. Nobody is "out" for ages 4 to 6; just keep playing.
3. Pumpkin bowling (10 minutes)
Line up ten empty plastic bottles or paper cups as pins. Roll a small pumpkin or an orange ball. Little kids stand close. Older kids keep score.
4. Pass the pumpkin (5 minutes)
Pass a small pumpkin around the circle while music plays. Whoever holds it when the music stops answers a question: "What's your favorite candy?" or "Do a witch laugh." No elimination, so nobody sulks.
5. Witch's hat ring toss (10 minutes)
Paper cone hats or a real witch hat on the floor. Toss glow-stick bracelets as rings. Ages 4 to 6 stand one step away.
6. Spider web walk (10 minutes)
Tape painter's tape or yarn across a hallway in a web pattern. Kids climb through without touching the strands. Take it down before the next game so nobody trips.
7. Guess the gross bowl (10 minutes)
Boxes with a hand hole: peeled grapes as eyeballs, cold spaghetti as worms, a wet sponge as a brain. Ages 6 and up love it. Keep it optional; some kids hate wet textures.
8. Ghost in the graveyard, indoor version (10 minutes)
One child is the ghost and hides. The others count to 20 together, then tiptoe looking. Whoever finds the ghost first hides next. Keep the lights on and limit it to two rooms.
9. A Halloween clue hunt (20 to 30 minutes)
This is the one to build the party around. Ten clue cards lead from the front door through the house to a treasure bowl. Everyone hunts together, so nobody waits for a turn, and it fills the longest slot of the party. The full route is in Halloween scavenger hunt for kids at home, and free clue lines are in printable Halloween treasure hunt clues.
