Treasure Hunt for 10 Year Olds
Ten-year-olds have already done the easy lap of the house. On the Detective level the riddle does not name the spot, a mini puzzle checks the answer, and the last card is not the end until the secret message is solved.

Hard enough that they stay with it
- Each riddle describes what the spot does, with one detail that fits only that object in your house.
- The mini puzzle stops a fast reader from calling the answer before the team has worked it out.
- The secret message is a second puzzle after the last card, so sprinting does not end the hunt.
- Name the rooms that are in play, hand over card one, and stay out of the line.
Sample riddles for age 10
- Toolbox: Percy hunts a hammer where a red handle sits, lift the top tray for the card in the kit.
- Apron: Percy follows a hook and a pocket of flour, the apron, not the coat, has the card this hour.
- Picture frame: Percy stares at a photo hung down at your eyes, the back of the frame is where the next card lies.
Make it for a 10-year-old
- Enter age 10. Detective is selected for you. Pirate Adventure is the theme to start, and Mystery Detective is one tap away if they want a case instead of a heist.
- Pick spots they cannot see from the door. Preview two spots for free. Skip cushions and fridge doors. A toolbox tray, a closed book, or the back of a frame gives the riddle something to do.
- Agree three hints, then leave. Print, hide, and put the treasure in place before the last card. Say the hint rule out loud, hand over card one, and wait in another room.
Common questions
Will a 10-year-old think this is too young?
Call it a mission if you need to. The Detective cards are riddles and mini puzzles, not pictures of the next spot. Easy picture hunts are what feel young at ten.
Can I add a lock or a code on top?
Yes. Use the printed hunt as the route, then add one lock or one code you bring. The parent sheet still has every printed answer.
What if a younger sibling wants to play the same hunt?
Pair them with a reader and let them carry the tokens. If the sibling is under 7 and the whole party is young, make a second Explorer hunt rather than watering this one down.
What do I see before I pay?
The theme character and two of your own hiding spots as illustrated clue cards, free and without a card. The full printable hunt is $29.99 (was $34.99).
